Prague from Above
Something I really like to do whenever I visit a new city is to climb up a tower or a hill and look at it from above. What’s great about Prague is that it has plenty of options to do just this.
Clementinum
The Clementinum can only be visited through a guided tour, and do be warned – there are narrow, steep, rickety wooden steps on the climb up. But even if you don’t like that sort of thing (I’m not a big fan of guided tours myself), reaching the top of the Astronomical Tower and getting to enjoy that view is more than worth it.
Hradčany
Hradčany is the castle district, which is perched high atop a hill and overlooks the rest of Prague. It consists mostly of Prague Castle, which is said to be the largest in the world, and various other historical buildings. It’s more of a stroll than a climb to reach the top, but it is all steps, so keep that in mind.
Astronomical Clock Tower
The most accessible of the three places I climbed to get a view of Prague was the Astronomical Clock Tower – you can climb the winding ramp to reach the top or just, you know, ride the elevator.
It looks out directly onto the Old Town Square and its surrounding little streets, which made it the most interesting view of them all for me. And, if you’re lucky, you might even chance to hear the bells from one of the nearby churches…
