The Savoy Gallery was first established in 1832, when King Charles Albert of Savoy joined the collections historically owned by his family with objects acquired from the Palazzo Durazzo in Genoa.

It was originally housed at the Palazzo Madama, then moved in 1865 to the Palazzo dei Nobili in Via Accademia delle Scienze, where it remained until 2014. It was then moved to its present location at the Palazzo Reale.

Its collection today contains over 800 pieces, having been enriched over the years, particularly with works by Italian Renaissance and Flemish artists, as well as the collection of the industrialist Riccardo Gualino.
